Network Continuity in the Midst of Hurricane Season September 22, 2010

We’ve all heard the saying, “You never know when disaster will strike.” And in the midst of what’s already promising to be an extreme hurricane season, it’s natural for people to be on high alert.  Telmar knows that it’s more than imperative to have a reliable and redundant communications system – especially in difficult times.

Since 2002, Telmar – through its wireless subsidiary, Commnet Supply – has implemented more than nine wireless networks including CDMA, GSM, and UMTS throughout the Caribbean. Telmar offers the strongest experience not only in the implementation of new wireless networks in the Cayman Islands, US Virgin Islands, Curacao, Saint Maarten, Bonaire, Haiti, Turks & Caicos, Bermuda, and other islands, but also in supporting these networks.

The needs of the Caribbean aren’t the same as those of the U.S., Central America, South America, or other countries or regions. With more than 24 countries, more than five different languages and a wide range of different cultures, a successful wireless network implementation requires a partner like Telmar who understands how to ensure a successful deployment and continued quality of service for your end users.

When Hurricane Bill (the fifth largest tropical cyclone on record) howled in 2009, Telmar was there to provide hurricane preparedness support and disaster recovery. And when the deadliest storm of the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season, Hurricane Hanna, landed in Haiti, Telmar made sure our customers received supplies and provided a geographically redundant network design to ensure the quality and reliability of their ongoing services to end users. We were also there to help out after the 7.0 earthquake that hit Haiti earlier this year.

Telmar’s disaster recovery crews include tower climbers, BTS installers, switch techs, RF engineers and others who make sure your network regains connectivity as quickly and efficiently as possible so there’s minimal downtime or disruption of service to your customers. Our crews are always on alert and ready to mobilize after a storm hits. Remember, you never can know when disaster will strike, but you can always be ready incase it does.
